NOTES:
This is a CDR
These recordings were made by Vorance on the bandstand in the 60s and 70s, and also by myself in 1984. I had moved from Seattle to Louisiana about a year before, and when I stumbled upon Maurice Barzas and the Mamou Playboys, I knew for sure I had found the real thing. I recognized a priceless jewel and had to try to capture this sound so that when it was no longer around I would always have it and be able to share with other people a little bit of the experience I had meeting Vorance, Maurice and other musicians who played with them, listeningt to their music and getting to know these fine people. Vorance graciously Allowed me to copy his cassette recordings and go through them all, along with the ones I made to choose the best songs to be included in this two CD set. It was very difficult to choose. I loved them all! Vorance has been so helpful, spending hours of his time looking for old pictures, reviewing the recordings, and telling me what he can remember about his life of music with his father. Also special thanks to Joel Savoy, who converted the original cassette tapes to digital for editing in the computer. - Tina Pilione -
