| NOTES: Wade in the Water is a recording born of immense destruction and tragedy, yet culminates with hope and rebirth. When hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans, jazz musicians with roots in the Crescent City extending back generations were scattered across the country. Twenty-four old Devin Phillips was welcomed in Portland, Oregon, where he added to the already rich jazz community a distinctive musical tradition. Devin has worked with such luminaries as Nicholas Payton, Los Hombres Calientes, Delfeayo Marsalis, the Headhunters, and Lenny Kravitz. Devin's versatile and highly personal voice is steeped in the true tradition of jazz. This debut recording proves Mr. Phillips to be a mature soloist, as well as a talented composer and bandleader. |
