Notes
Night Train Records restores a missing link to the historical chain of New Orleans music with this release by The Prime Ministers, the same posse of funky white boys who produced Dr. John. Within a year, all of these players had moved on to the Dr. John or Al Hirt bands and, in the case of Ronnie Barron, were primed for a solo career. Almost entirely instrumentals, save for “How Do You Feel,” with vocals by Barron. This extraordinary album feels like the combo jazz that put Prestige Records on the map, yet contains super-rhythmic drumming that is unmistakably New Orleans!
