Notes
Digitally re-mastered two CD set containing a pair of albums from iconic New Orleans singer/songwriter Mac Rebennack AKA Dr. John. With Cajun guests Sonny Landreth and Michael Doucet and arrangements by Fred Wesley, CREOLE MOON featured four co-writes with songwriting legend Doc Pomus, and is, in Dr John’s words, ‘a collection of tunes so close to my heart that I feel strongest about – a personal interpretation of New Orleans, and each song is a story or a vignette’. N’AWLINZ: DIS DAT OR D’UDDA is a further tribute to the city, helmed this time by legendary producer Stewart Levine. Rebennack had both a desire to celebrate and pay back the many musicians who had given him the music he loved, and had taken the time to show him how to do it too. The album features a who’s who of those talents, most notably the indefatigable Mavis Staples, B.B. King, Cyril Neville, plus wild card guests like Willie Nelson, and Randy Newman.
