50th Anniversary Of A Love Supreme
Unreleased Sextet Recordings From Coltrane’s Personal Tapes
20 Page Booklet With Artist’s Musical Notations and Rare Images
Originally released in 1965, A Love Supreme changed music history, cementing the saxophonists reputation as one of the most groundbreaking musicians in music, and was subsequently ranked No. 47 in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Until now, the complete picture of what happened during the albums recording session, held on December 9th 1964, has never been revealed. The Complete Masters celebrates the 50th anniversary of the original album release, and finally collects all the previously unavailable outtakes, overdubs, and studio chatter from the session.
Recorded over two days at the Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey in December 1964, the sessions included Coltrane’s quartet of Elvin Jones on drums, Jimmy Garrison on bass, and McCoy Tyner on piano. Archie Shepp and Doctor Art Davis joined Coltrane on the second day to re-record the opening part of the suite. The various takes, alternative versions and overdubs from those sessions make up this release.
