In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, many New Orleans artists found themselves in Texas. Among those who lost homes in the 9th Ward was Sam Henry, the legendary keyboard artist, composer and arranger. He began playing instruments at age 4, has taught music since 1962 and played and recorded with many famous New Orleans Jazz and R&B greats including leading the influential funk and soul favorite, Sam & The Soul Machine.
Together with notable New Orleans artists (including Dr. John and Cyril Neville), new Texas friends (Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel), encouraged by saxophone great and original Soul Machine member, Gary Brown and producer Jaybo Hopkins, Sam and friends met together in Austin at Ray Benson’s Bismeaux Studios and magic happened…
