Notes
On this CD, clarinetist Tim Laughlin sought to stretch the boundaries of New Orleans jazz a bit. With the exception of two originals (“Blue Orleans” and “King of the Mardi Gras”), the material is generally quite familiar, but Laughlin’s arrangements utilize larger groups than usual, sometimes including two trumpets, two trombones and (on Sidney Bechet’s “Lonesome”) a few strings. In addition to Laughlin, the main soloist is the exciting cornetist Connie Jones; highlights include “Farewell Blues,” “Palesteena” and “Panama.” A fun set of high-quality trad jazz.
