Notes

The combination of a strong marching rhythm with a syncopated, off the beat melody, is what makes ragtime unique; that sense of
a ‘ragged’ offbeat rhythm gives the genre it’s name. It is dance music – as your brain sorts out the on-beats and the off, you can’t help but move your feet. Musical fashions come and go, but it looks as if ragtime is here to stay.
